Ahhh, Getting from A – B, if only it were as simple as hopping from a vowel to a consonant! What was once considered a simple journey, now, under the watchful green eye, appears full of unintended consequences. It seems that when you combine a billion odd cars, the buoyant shipping industry and sky-rocketing aviation that bad things happen to the environment. Now there’s a surprise! Don’t believe us? Next time you put the car in your garage, shut the garage door, turn on the engine and see what happens. Obviously don’t do that, but our point is that what once seemed like a rather large planet and a pretty small car, now seems like a pretty small planet and a rather large car in light of the swathes of autos clogging up roads the world over.

Consumerism

They say that consumerism is a disease. If so, we would be lying to say that we’re not infected. It somehow feels wrong that we can indentify more corporate logos than we can spot native species of wildlife. Rather than highlighting a decline in the Great British birdwatcher this demonstrates our increasing distance from the natural environment. With distance tends to come a lack of interest in conservation: why protect something that no longer seems important in the hustle and bustle of modern day life? Why should we be concerned with the loss of another tree when there are more important things to worry about: the next door neighbour has an MP3 player with twice to memory of both of ours put together – rendering us to mere lame mates and seeking self-betterment.
