When you work in the film production industry, it’s easy to become complacent about your environmental impact. After all, production houses seldom have a steaming chimney stack and film producers rarely dump toxic waste, or slaughter seal pups for that matter. But the truth is that storing and editing video footage requires vast amounts of computer power and electricity. As only 5.5% of our electricity comes from renewable resources. In other words, over 90% of electricity is generated from burning of fossil fuels! What is more, film shoots tend to be set in far-flung locations, involving hundreds of staff and requiring large diesel trucks to transport equipment. So, there’s clearly work to be done. We’ve put together a simple 9-point guide on green production.
