Dung Beetle

At Nice and Serious we have a natural talent for sniffing out a good green story and this one reeks of Eco-ism! On the 5th August British sewage treatment company Wessex Water revealed their latest invention and the ultimate solution to waste management - a car which runs on human poop!

The Poopmobile (couldn’t resist) is in fact a Volkswagen Beetle powered by the methane biogas generated from human excrement and can travel 10,000 miles annually on waste collected from 70 households! The car is reportedly the first gas-powered car that does not suffer reduced performance, running at a top speed of 114mph. If trial runs are successful, Volkswagen may even consider converting some of its fleet to utilize this new (or actually really, really old) source of energy.

Before you all cringe in disgust let me reassure you that the Dung Beetle (last one I promise!) does not have an unpleasant odour and apparently could not be distinguished from other non-crap fueled cars! So stop thinking about the implications of ‘filling up’ at a gas station and that ‘new car smell’, stock up on some baked beans and cabbage and let nature take its course... After all, the future of energy saving, carbon neutral travelling and waste management could be just a few toilet visits away!
