Commitment

A big part of Nice and Serious is our commitment to the environment. As an environmental film production company, it would be a 'tad' hypocritical if our environmental policy did not extend beyond the colour of our website. We passionately strive to integrate sustainable practises into our business and personal lives. Here are three real examples of our commitment.
1. Environmental and Ethical Organisations
Green-washing (companies that pretend to be green) makes us go green in the face. We only make films for organisations that are environmentally and ethically responsible.
2. Buy a film: Save a tonne
This unique green scheme was launched in 2009. For every film we produce we buy the permit to emit one tonne of CO2 from the EU Emissions Trading scheme and then we chuck it away! (The permits are electronic so no actual waste is produced!). It's simple, the less permits there are the more expensive it is to pollute. This gives a competitive advantage to cleaner companies. So far we've bought and binned over 30 tonnes of CO2!
3. A to B (without the carbon)
Transport produces a monstrous amount of CO2. We don't want to feed that monster. At Nice and Serious' London HQ, all of our employees either walk, cycle or catch the train to work. When a film project necessitates the use of a vehicle, we either use Green Tomato Cars (London's first environmentally-friend taxi service) or for larger projects we use Streetcar (a pay-as-you-go car-sharing scheme). For long distance travel we use the train - "we ain't gettin' on no plane" (BA Baracus, 1982).
4. Green Wednesdays
Green Wednesdays is an ethical film screening club that is organised by Nice and Serious. The events are open to the general public and are held every quarter in a central London location. They feature cutting edge, thought-provoking films about environmental, ethical and social issues. Each screening is followed by a talk and discussion which is usually led by a prominent speaker on the topic.
Green Wednesdays is the Nice and Serious approach to engaging our clients and the local community with serious issues in a nice setting (the organic popcorn and beer always help things along!) All the events are subsidised by Nice and Serious to make them accessible to everyone. Previous screenings have included the Oscar-nominated Food Inc and a National premier of Countdown to Zero. To find out more and to book your seat for the next event, visit our website www.greenwednesdays.com.
5. Nice Days Out
Nice Days Out is about the Nice and Serious team giving something back to the community. Once or twice a year the whole team takes a day out of the office and visits a school to teach the students about environmental issues through a fun-packed film making workshop. It’s a rewarding experience for all the team and the children have a great day learning about environmental issues whilst getting hands-on experience with professional film cameras. If you’re a school teacher and want to find out more about the initiative, drop us an e-mail at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
Make sure you check out our Flickr channel to see some pics from previous Nice Days Out.
Striving to become a sustainable business isn't as simple as points one, two and three. There are a whole host of other initiatives we have taken to make Nice and Serious London's greenest video production company. You can download our full, fun-filled environmental policy here. We recognise that it is a work in progress, so please let us know if you have any suggestions!
